Amateur filmmaker Sid Laverents has been declared dead in Chula Vista, California, his wife Charlotte says. He was 100 years-old.
Laverents’ movie “Multiple SIDosis” has been selected for preservation by the National Film Preservation Board. Preservation Board project coordinator Stephen Leggett applauded the film The New York Times reported on Sunday.
“We selected it to honor all the many terrific films produced by amateur cine club filmmakers throughout the United States over the years,” Leggett told Times. “The film is technically quite adept and inventive, amusingly droll and quite mesmerizing to those who see it.”
Along with filmmaking, Laverents served as a Consolidated Aircraft sheet metal worker.
Sid Laverents died of pneumonia on May 6.
