Brazilian Race Car Driver Helio Castroneves Is Charged With Tax Evasion

Helio Castroneves is being charged with conspiracy and tax evasion for approximately $5.5 million in income from the years 1996 and 2004. These charges also apply to his sister as well as his attorney.
Now that the testimonies are in, the closing arguments are to follow which are scheduled for this Thursday. The jury is then to deliberate on this case.
According to the Internal Revenue Service, Helio owes more than $2.3 million in U.S. taxes for the years of 1999 and 2004. His defense attorney says that Helio has done nothing wrong and that he will pay for any taxes in the deferred compensation deal scheduled for some time in May.
Helio in not only known for his fast moves on the track but also for his fast moves on the dance floor. He was a competitor in the 2007 tv series “Dancing With the Stars”.
Helio has missed the first race of the IndyCar Series this season.
