Madonna Is Denied Adoption In Malawi

Madonna’s petition to adopt a girl from Malawi is declined today. Although Madonna’s attorney seemed confident that there would be no law to stop Madonna from adopting the 4 year old girl, Mercy James, the judge still ruled against the adoption.
This would not be the first time that Madonna adopts a child from Malawi. A few years back she adopted a baby boy, David Banda. Madonna wanted for David to have a little sister from his homeland of Malawi.
But we all know Madonna, she’s not taking no for an answer! She has filed for an appeal with the Supreme Court. Her attorney said, “I just filed the notice of appeal [with the Supreme Court] on instructions from my client.”
Judge Esme Chombo is concerned that by letting Madonna bypass the standard requirements and “removing the very safeguard that is supposed to protect our children, the courts by their pronouncements could actually facilitate trafficking of children by some unscrupulous individuals.”
Judge Esme expressed that Mercy will benefit from Madonna’s good works within the orphanage, where she currently resides. The judge said, “It is evident that Chifundo James no longer is subject to the conditions of poverty at her place of birth.”
