The New York City medical examiner determined that Natasha Richardson died of blunt impact to the head.
The death was caused by an accident. The cause of death is listed as “epidural hematoma due to blunt impact to the head,” said NYC medical examiner, spokeswoman Ellen Borakove.
An epidural hematoma(bleeding in between the skull and the brains covering) is caused by a skull fracture. The bleeding causes a blood clot then that pressure is put on the brain. The pressure can push the brain downward to press on the brain stem which controls breathing. This process also causes comas and deaths.
The actress fell during a ski lesson on Monday. At first, Natasha said she felt fine, so the ambulance left.
After the fall, she began to get a headache and was taken to the hospital. Her husband, Liam Neeson rushed to be next to her and then had her taken to New York City, so her family and friends could say their goodbyes.
