Rihanna Assaulted-Leaked Photo
A leaked photograph of Rihanna after her alleged assault by Chris Brown has made the Los Angeles Police Department launch a critical investigation of how the photograph made it to the public. The photograph appears to show the battered face of the pop star Rihanna after an alleged attack by her boyfriend.
The photograph was posted last night on the celebrity gossip website TMZ.com, and shows the former beauty queen’s face covered with bruises, scratches and swelling. The close-up shows welts above each eyebrow and marks on her cheeks and around her lips.
TMZ did not say how it obtained the photo, when it was taken or by whom, but the LAPD immediately launched an internal investigation and said that it “has the appearance” of a photograph taken during a domestic violence investigation.
Chris Brown, 19, was arrested on February 8 and booked on suspicion of making felony criminal threats after a public altercation with Rihanna at a pre-Grammy party.
Rihanna, who won a Grammy for her mega-hit Umbrella last year, turns 21 today.
The LAPD has not yet confirmed that Rihanna - whose real name is Robyn Fenty - was the victim of the alleged assault and did not mention her by name in last night’s statement.
The photograph published by TMZ clearly shows a tattoo of Roman numerals on her left shoulder identical to a “bonding tattoo” the singer has which shows her best friend’s birthdate.
The LAPD said in its statement that it seriously takes its “duty to maintain the confidentiality of victims of domestic violence” and that it had launched an urgent internal investigation into the leaked photograph, as well as filing a “personnel complaint”.
“A violation of this type is considered serious misconduct, with penalties up to and including termination,” it added.
The Department asked members of the public with information about the leaked photograph to contact them.
