Confessions Of A Shopaholic-Isla Fisher
Based on author Sophie Kinsella’s series of books, Rebecca Bloomwood (Isla Fisher) is a Manhattan shopaholic whose shopping sprees have buried her in credit card debt. Although desperate to find a way to pay her bills, she manages to land a job as a columnist who writes about, of all things, financial advice!
In the glamorous world of New York City, Rebecca (Fisher) can’t seem to break her habit for impulse buying. Although she has great fashion sense and is always stuttin’ the latest styles, her credit card bills are as thick as the phonebook. Rebecca dreams about landing a job at a high-profile fashion magazine, and transforming her addiction for shopping into a paying job. However, when Rebecca becomes an advice columnist at a financial magazine published by the same company as her favorite fashion magazine, her fresh approach becomes an eye-opener for her readers and she quickly becomes the talk of the town. Meanwhile, her bank account is still dry as a bone and ruining her love life. Her new-found career also becomes jeopardized by her debt. Borderline bankrupt and ruined, she goes to ever more hilarious and extreme efforts to keep her past from destroying her future.
Her best friend Suze Cleath-Stewart (Krysten Ritter) helps her to get a handle on her debt by banning her from shopping and by forcing her to give away all her belongings. Rebecca is forced to deal with her growing debt as a debt collector by the name of Derek Smeath follows her all around New York while she tries to avoid him. Hugh Dancy plays her boss and love interest. He’s the editor of the savings magazine and his charming personality makes his character very likeable. Joan Cusack and John Goodman round out the cast as Rebecca’s hilarious parents who are, ironically, very frugal.
Round up your girlfriends and go check out this movie. I definitely say SEE IT (I think it’s better than “Sex and the City,” just don’t tell SJP). It doesn’t hit theaters for a few more days, so you’ll have to settle for the trailer until then.
TTFN!
