Director Adam Egoyan is praising actor Liam Neeson for his professionalism in returning on the set of “Chloe” shortly after his wife died.

Actress Natasha Richardson died last month after she suffered a tragic head injury during a skiing accident while Neeson was working with Egoyan on “Chloe.” The couple had been married for about 15 years and they had two sons.

“He called me and said, ‘You know, let’s do it right away.’ It was really emotional,” People.com quoted Egoyan saying. “I think the only way he could have come back was right after because his family was all there to support his boys. … Liam is heroic. He came back and finished.”

The director said Neeson stays “in a state of shock” following his wife’s early death at age 45.

“I think he’s trying to absorb (what happened.) … He’s suddenly a single parent with absolutely no preparation for that,” Egoyan said. “(Neeson) is surrounded by people that really love him. There is a lot of support.”
