François Pinault swung open the doors to his much anticipated Punta della Dogana museum last night with a party that attracted all sorts of royalty, from fashion (Stella McCartney) to art (Jeff Koons) to, well, royalty (Charlotte Casiraghi of Monaco). It was quite the event: For a number of years, Pinault has been renovating a dilapidated building on a prime piece of Venice real estate—and stuffing it with his own collection of Cindy Shermans, Cy Twomblys, and Chapman brothers works. “This place rocks,” said Marc Jacobs more than once. The art it houses, however, raised a few eyebrows, even in a crowd filled with seen-it-all Italian Lotharios. We’re talking about the Murakami sculptures that showcase body fluids exploding from orifices, and Robert Gober’s delicate lithographed wallpaper of hand-drawn private parts. Mio Dio!

After the opening, Angela Missoni hosted a casual dinner in honor of Bruce Nauman on her boyfriend Bruno Ragazzi’s yacht. Too casual for some: Carine Roitfeld and her son Vladimir ignored the lightly enforced shoe-removal rule. “It would just take too long to undo them,” the editor said of her lace-up Alaïas. But no one refused the bottomless pitcher of mojitos or the endless supply of tomatoes and mozzarella. The threat of lightning in the distance didn’t seem to concern a crowd that included Franca Sozzani, Eugenie Niarchos, and Bee Shaffer, either. “I’m not worried,” Jefferson Hack said of the possibility of rain. “It knows better than to come here.”
