The Gospel Music Association’s Dove Awards had scheduled Miss California to appear live on the air from Nashville, Tennessee. Miss California, Carrie Prejean, lost the Miss USA pageant after her response to a question on gay marriage.
Carrie was the first runner-up last weekend when Perez Hilton, an openly gay pageant judge, asked the question on gay marriage. Carrie’s response was, “I think it’s great that Americans are able to choose one or the other. But in my country, and in my family, I think that I believe that marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offense to anybody out there, but that’s how I was raised.” She stood by her answer on an interview with NBC’s ‘Today’ show and said it was about being “biblically correct” not “politically correct”.
A spokeswoman for Miss California said that she would be introducing a performance by Mercy Me, from their hit “I Can Only Imagine”.
