After home-schooling her children, Jada Pinkett Smith has decided to open an elementary school. Jada and her husband, Will Smith, have opened an elementary school for pre-kindergarten through sixth grade in Calabasas, California last fall. They named the school ‘New Village Leadership Academy’.
The next step for Jada Pinkett Smith is to eventually open a high school to accompany the elementary school. There is no say as to when the high school will open. Jada Pinkett Smith, actress-producer, is going to not only star in but also produce a new series on TNT.
The elementary school has generated some controversy because of its instructional methods. The instructional methods at this elementary school are based on the beliefs of Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard. Even though the school director says that this isn’t a Scientology school, some of its teachers are members of the Church of Scientology, and it will use teaching methods developed by Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard.
Mr. Reynolds, a spokesperson for a California Association of Private Schools Organization said, “I know next to nothing about Scientology, but if you’re using some method or technology closely associated with Scientology and Scientology is characterized as a church or religious body, it raises a question if they proclaim themselves as other than religious.”
