Marva Wright Hospitalized After A Stroke

Marva Wright, New Orleans blues singer, has been hospitalized after a stroke.
Family members say the 61-year-old had just finished her regular gig at the CoCo Club on Bourbon Street early on Saturday when paramedics were called because the singer wasn’t feeling her best and had slurred speech.
Gerry McKey, Wright’s daughter, said on Tuesday her mother remains in a local hospital with limited movement on her right side. McKey said her mother has diabetes and high blood pressure and suffered a minor stroke about three weeks ago.
Manager Adam Shipley said Wright’s June 19 show at Tipitina’s has been canceled and other cancellations may continue. Wright’s band, the BMWs, performed as slated at a benefit concert Sunday with a substitute singer.
