Madonna is seen smiling again! She was seen in public with a smile on her face as she was going to dinner with, her friend and fashion designer, Stella McCartney on Monday. The two had lots to talk about while they enjoyed dinner at Cecconi’s Restaurant in London.
Madonna will continue her persuit to adopt Mercy by appealing the judge’s decision to decline the adoption. Now that Mercy’s family totally supports Madonna in the adoption, this give Madonna more momentum to appeal the judge’s decision.
When Madonna adopted David, she didn’t have to jump over any hoops. So what’s different this time? Mercy’s grandmother, Lucy Chekechiwa, helped deliver her. Lucy was there as her granddaughter was born and watched as her daughter was dying. Lucy with the support of Mercy’s uncles has raised Mercy since birth.
The biological father, who was never involved, now wants to be part of Mercy’s life and is against Madonna adopting Mercy. Peter Baneti, one of Mercy’s uncles, had this to say, “This is an insult. This man didn’t care about his girlfriend, Mercy’s mother, when she needed him most. He didn’t even come to see his baby. We don’t even know if he bothered to find out if he had a child or what had happened to his girlfriend, who has since died.”
Mercy’s other uncle questions even if James Kambewa truly is the father. He said, “We just heard from Mercy’s mum Mwandida that she was made pregnant by a boy called James, that’s why she was named Chifundo James.” He added: “This boy completely denied responsibility over the pregnancy. He said he had nothing to do with the pregnancy, why should he come out of the woodwork now? Because she is now famous around the world? We hear that boy is a crook, he loves money and he thinks there is money involved in all this. We won’t let him near our niece. If he was caring enough he should have attempted to take care of the baby, especially when Mwandida died. He should have had the nerve to apologise to the family before making these wide claims.”
James in a attempt to defend himself said, “Her clan was mad with me. They accused me of destroying their daughter’s future. They forced me out of town because of the pressure they were exerting on me.” James currently works as a security guard for Television Malawi.
With the support of Mercy’s family Madonna will appeal the judge’s decision. Her lawyer, Alan Chinula, says they will appeal the decision in Malawi’s Supreme Court and thinks they have a good chance in winning.
