Dr. Jan Adams, who performed surgery on Kanye West’s mother the day before she died, has given up his medical license, according to the Medical Board of California.
“A series of complaints were filed against Mr. Adams, but he chose to surrender his license instead of contest them,” Medical Board spokeswoman Candis Cohen says.
Among the complaints: Two DUI convictions and failure to pay child support. His record also shows about four malpractice judgments against him between the years 2001 and 2007.
Calls to Adams and his lawyer were not quickly returned.
The Harvard graduate, Adams’s reputation as a Beverly Hills plastic surgeon began to grow after making appearances on TV’s Extra, the Discovery Channel, and The Oprah Winfrey Show, and other shows.
Donda West’s, Kanye’s mother, autopsy showed the 58-year-old woman died of heart failure. Although “there was no evidence of a surgical or anesthetic misadventure,” the report found “multiple post-operative factors could have played a role.”
“As far as I’m concerned … at least the autopsy report suggests nothing went on during surgery, nothing went on during recovery,” Adams told Larry King in January of 2008.
